Hello from Indonesia! My name is Villadelfi Deovia Wityananda. I am 20 years old and learning English in Faculty of Language and Art (FLA) in Universitas Kristen Satya Wacana Salatiga. This is my third year study in this university. I choose English as my major since I think English is an important need for everyone to face the future world where everyone needs to communicate and connected since the globalization era. I was born in a pastor family. My grandfather was a pastor but he has passed away last year but he left a good example of being a Jesus believer. My father is a pastor in a church in a small village. The church congregations are mostly farmer.  This makes me stay healthy since they give our family fresh vegetable right after they harvest their plants.

Talking about giving the best not merely about giving money but also the honest and loyal heart that they have, is very inspiring for me. The duration taken from my house to the church is more or less 45 minutes since our church GJKI Filadelfia Kopeng is not close to our house. However, since my father wants to serve in this village, our family still serving there by go and back from my town to this village. To me, was born as a pastor daughter is like a gift for me because I can know God more and serve Him trough talents given to me. I help my father to serve in church by teaching 20 students in the Sunday school. I thank God since I can learn from each of my Sunday school students through their faith in God. I also can share God kindness every Sunday to them from the Bible verses. I also blessed with a singing talent. This makes me able to be the worship leader and backing vocal in my church.

My mother is a house wife; she stopped work since she did a thyroid surgery few years ago. This makes my mother choose to make some bread and cookies to be sold. I thought of how to help my family, because I admit that our family is not a rich family (but Jesus, my king is very rich) J. Then I decided to sell the snack made by my mother in campus. For some people maybe going to campus, bringing a box contains of 40 breads and selling it to others is embarrassing, but for me it is challenging. I can help my family through this way. I sell the bread Rp.2500 each. Thank God my friends and lectures like and buy the snack made by my mother. I still do this new hobby (selling) until today. My brother is a junior high school student and he is in his second year now and he is a good drummer in our church.

Besides selling snack in campus, obviously I am learning. I am happy because I have many friends who support me to survive in this university. I thank God because my last GPA was 3.89. I hope I can still maintain my GPA thus my parents will be happy if one day, when I am graduate I get the cum laude predicate. Deciding to be an FLA student is one of my life goals. However, I once thinking of how to survive in this faculty, especially because of the fee that should be paid to my family it is expensive but then I tried to apply some scholarship in my faculty but it was fail. UNACCEPTED many times make me almost give up. Then I read a Scranton Scholarship poster and I start to complete the requirements one by one and before I gave the map to the university office, I say “OK God, this is my last try in scholarship, if this is the way out, then I will get it, but if not I believe that You have the better way out.” My heart jumped out after knowing that I am ACCEPTED. I told my family and I saw my parents face become brighter because they know that there is a hope for me to finish my day in this university.

I would like to say thank you for the whole Scranton intern since giving me a chance to be the family of SWLC. The help from Scranton for me is like God way and the invisible hands that motivates me to survive learning in FLA.  I really believe that Scranton has becoming the way out for people out there that still put their hope in God. I hope Scranton can be a blessing for SWLC scholars. One thing that I know, behind everything that happens in our life even sadness, sorrow, failure, boredom, Jesus is still with us and He will show the way out by His unique and creative way.
