HAVE A GREAT DAY TO ALL!!

I wanted to  have an exposure in the real world and apply my learnings  I gained from school the reason why  I rendered my time and effort as a practicum student  in Social Security System (SSS) Iloilo Central Branch. I spent four months in the Medical Evaluation Section and it was worthy enough for me to show my capability as a student. It was not easy yet I was very eager to learn , to develop my skills, boost my confidence and to gain more friends. I entered the office with much knowledge and advice from the school  on how to have a successful practicum experience. Truly that learning could not only be found inside the classroom but also to the place where I could prove to do things and make it possible.

My major learning I gained while working in the office was the way in handling people. As a frontline officer, I was exposed to different people and my interpersonal skill was really challenged. I managed to deal with the members fairly in every situation.   I humbly assisted aged members who came over in the office especially those who could not afford to write and read due to poor vision especially the annual confirmation of pensioners(ACOP) members.

Technically I also learned how to use office equipment such as computer in checking the members documents and papers. Also, I was able to know how to use and apply proper etiquette in answering phone calls. I could manage how to operate the office scanner when scanning important and legal documents and printer in printing hard copies of   forms. Equipment was very necessary to handle properly when working in the office.

In terms with legality, two major learning I obtained were confidentiality and secrecy. Since I was working in a government office, it involved private documents that must be handled honestly and fairly. When checking or  encoding the  transaction in the computer, I carefully checked it to confirm if the owner and the document were matched as well as the remarks of the doctors either it is approved, reduced, returned or denied because all our encoding jobs are related to money matters.

Being resourceful and patient were some of the learning that I also gained. Being patient when Offline, brown out and when air-condition was not in use. I made use of the back portion of printed band papers and turned it into scratch papers  to minimize the use of office supplies.

Being a practicum student in a government office is a great advantage among other offices and companies. I learned how people worked in the government, how they treated people and how they gave their service. Although salaries in government offices were not that as big as in the private firms but they have a lot of benefits, I could see how government employees performed their job and they were very dedicated and compassionate. They observed punctuality and eagerness to work which we really admired them. Because of their qualities, we were all motivated to perform our assigned task properly.

Above all I was very thankful to GOD for all the blessings I received and for giving me this institution where in I can I have my practicum and have a cool, friendly, generous and hardworking supervisors and co- trainees. I have learned a lot from them and I enjoy working with them because in MEDICAL  we are family, we are solid as one, we were born to serve others.
