Hello everyone! How are you doing? I do hope that all of you are keeping fine amid the situation of covid-19. It is a big privilege for me to know and greet all of you even though just through social media. Allow me to introduce myself, my name is Modesta Oki and usually, they call me Desta. I am a nun and also a student. Currently, I am a 3rd-year student majoring in Information Systems at Duta Wacana Christian University (UKDW), Indonesia.

First of all, I would like to thank God for His countless blessings in my life. Because of His grace, I am able to have this Scranton Scholarship and this is my first year of receiving Scranton Scholarship.  I am grateful for the opportunity given to me by God through Scranton Scholarship, which can help me to grow in different aspects of my life, developing my talents and skills,  in order to help those who are in need. 

As I have mention before that aside from being as a nun I am also a student,  which have different responsibilities and it is important for me to manage my time. After knowing that I got accepted in Scranton Scholarship, I realize that I will have another responsibility that need to be done. After receiving Scranton Scholarship, I decided to become a volunteer in one of the office of our university. Meeting different people with their own uniqueness and capabilities lead me where I could learn many new things from them.

I could say that this Scranton Scholarship allows me to encounter many people in my life and inspire me to study more and more as well as for helping other people. Working together with the staff in the Office of International Affairs of Wacana Christian University, helps me a lot in learning new things and also some values of life that can be learned. Humility and friendliness, humble enough to say sorry and ask for help and have this kind of attitude of friendliness with all people that I encounter.

 Doing all this things as a student, nun, and volunteer, each has their own portion and it was not an easy task. But it helps me to realize one thing that time management is very important. Without God’s grace and time management I don’t think it could happened. From time management will help me to stay focus and keep the balance in my life. Some people might look at it as sacrifice but for me it is not sacrifice but it is opportunity.
