The Scranton Scholarship in Korea offers two programs: the SWLC-Ewha Scholarship and the Ph.D. in Theology Scholarship. The SWLC-Ewha Scholarship is open to female applicants planning to apply to master’s or doctoral programs at Ewha Womans University in Seoul. The Ph.D. in Theology Scholarship is available to female applicants planning to apply to doctoral programs at theological seminaries in the metropolitan area of South Korea. Depending on eligibility, the scholarship is awarded annually and covers tuition and living expenses in Korea.
SWLC-Ewha Scholarship Eligibility:
Female students from SWLC partner institutions in Asia planning to apply to Ewha Womans University’s master’s or doctoral programs are eligible to apply for this scholarship. In addition, Christian women from developing Asian countries with a GDP per capita under USD 5,000 who are currently residing in Korea are also eligible to apply; in such cases, the scholarship covers tuition only.
For master’s programs, eligibility is primarily limited to Scranton Scholars who have previously received the Scranton Scholarship; however, applicants recommended through SWLC partner institutions may also be considered. For doctoral programs at Ewha, eligibility is open to all applicants, with priority given to female faculty members who do not yet hold a doctoral degree.
Applicants may apply regardless of their major, provided they enroll in a general graduate school. Programs offered by professional graduate schools—such as law, medicine, business, or international studies—are not eligible. Priority is given to Christian students.
